We have now started filming, writing, directing, producing LITTLE KLAUS BIG WORLD, an 82mn feature, 2 years ago, it is almost done. I never thought the process was so long, keeping in fact I went around the world for 18 months doing that. I thought I d be done in 6 months but I was alone, mostly except for editing and it is true i did not have 15 millions dollars that Sacha Cohen and that I was partly studying in a business school while filming for 6 months and moved about 10 times during the process with everything I owned!!!
I loved the shooting part and even somehow the producing part but explaining the concept to distributors and festivals is just excruciating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nobody seems imaginative enough to understand that I love documentary and I love comedy (being a stand up comedy for 4 years) and I wanted to mix both without going to extreme such a borat. People need to put you in a box. I have never been in a box in my entire life, it is not after 30 that I can start.
I went to 4 different universities, changing majors every year, I had about 10 different careers over 4 continents prior entering my acting/comedy career and my hobbies range from running a marathon (first one in LA on March 21 in 5 hrs) to spending few months in removed cities in small countries such one can find in Philippines or Morocco and talking for hours about life coach, motivational speaking and what one needs to do in order to do what he loves in life and learning about difficult languages such as Japanese or Chinese. I find all of that fascinating. I would also love French dinners or French style parties where people dance. What is interesting about a human being is its paradox, it is the fact we re NOT one thing yet distributors/producers don t get that. If I make films it is in order to express myself and the many things happening within me that somehow I have not been able to channel through acting or stand up comedy alone, this is why I make films, to express what i want to say to the world..and that experiences shape you more than the outcome. Making a docu style movie is something UFO-like for most people in this business, it will common in 10 years, I hope not to be too in advance. Yes i love the mix between actors and real people, between facts and fiction. I want the truth but an entertaining truth, is it too much to ask? Is it hard to grasp when so many reality tv shows is all what people want to watch. Oh but I forgot..it is TV!! Tv world is an entirely different world I keep hearing, in 10 years from now..everything will be mix. A storyteller is a storyteller and that is what I am, maybe a bit more unique that some.
Making a film was the hardest thing ever yet I can t wait to shoot again..I have a road movie in mind from LA to NYC and a docu-style thriller.
